What ACEC Does For Its Members
- Helped to secure passage of energy legislation that promotes new construction of power plants and extends federal liability protections for member firms;
- Actively promotes legislation in Congress to boost federal funding for the nation’s water infrastructure needs;
- Secured passage of brownfields legislation which will result in more work for ACEC member firms;
- Protects companies against frivolous lawsuits by promoting tort reform (in 1985, ACEC founded the American Tort Reform Association ATRA);
- Promoting Association Health Plan legislation to lower health care costs and enhance firm access to quality health insurance coverage;
- Helps to elect House and Senate members who support ACEC's legislative agenda 86% of candidates backed by ACEC/PAC won in the November 2006 elections;
- Fights for its members at the state level through the Minuteman Fund - a financial "war chest" that supports state and regional legal and legislative actions of national importance to the engineering industry;
- Helped to halt effort to impose a devastating professional services sales tax in several states;
- Collaborates with other associations such as AASHTO, AGC, NSPE, ASCE, AIA, to deliver the best possible work climate and resources for engineering companies;
- Provides the highest quality business practice resources and educational programs to the engineering industry;
- Partners with NCEES to provide the engineering industry with a learning management system called RCEP.net, featuring courses and professional development hours acceptable to state licensing boards.
- Delivers business management programs and indispensable business tools that enable member firms to practice successfully and expand their business opportunities;
- Provides "Best Practices" resources in all areas of engineering business management;
- Through its Organizational Peer Review Program, enables design firms to cost-effectively review and improve their management practices;
- Delivers member-only discount programs in a wide range of business services;
- Harnesses the creativity and know-how of its broad membership in the development of policies and programs to benefit the engineering industry;
- Annually recognizes the "best" engineering projects in the nation through its "Academy Awards of the Engineering Industry" ' the Engineering Excellence Awards;
- Uses its award-winning communications tools to advance the Council's political and business mission;
- Through its cutting-edge weekly newsletter, Last Word, delivers news on the latest legislative initiatives and business services;
- Through its award-winning magazine, Engineering Inc., delivers thought-provoking articles on advocacy and the business interests of ACEC members to both internal and external audiences;
- Works with reporters, editors, publishers, and broadcasters to provide engineering spokespersons, legislative and policy views, and feature articles on ACEC's advocacy and business interests and the contribution of private engineering to the quality of life.
