Volunteer STEM work in schools and universities help inspire the next generation of engineers and introduce students to different engineering disciplines and career opportunities. During E-Week Shannon Turner, PE, of Moffatt & Nichol, spoke at the STEM Roundtable at Norfolk State University, and FOXXSTEM employees visited Phelps ACE High School, a DC Public School dedicated to preparing young people for careers in Architecture, Construction, and Engineering. They teamed up with the CREW DC Student Outreach Committee for their monthly Phelps Girls’ Lunch Club presentation.
The work of Moffatt & Nichol engineers was highlighted during E-Week—both in the field and in the community mentoring future engineers. Their team is making an impact through innovative engineering solutions and inspiring the next generation at ChamberRVA’s Mission Tomorrow. This hands-on career exploration event gives students a glimpse into the world of engineering and the exciting opportunities it offers.
ACEC Virginia visited member firms to show appreciation for their work and spotlighted college engineering during E-Week. Dunbar employees showed their engineering pride and rocked their collegiate gear for Engineering College Spirit Day, celebrating the schools that shaped their careers. Robert V. Grubbs with Mason & Hanger represented Virginia Tech in the Member Organization’s College Engineering Spotlight. His passion for engineering started in the classroom and has grown into a career shaping the built environment.
