A nationwide roadshow to showcase great engineering and infrastructure will hold an event in Athens, Georgia at 1 p.m., Saturday April 19, to celebrate the Murmur Trestle, which is now part of the city’s popular Firefly Trail.  The trestle was made famous in 1983, when it was featured on the back cover of R.E.M. ‘s debut album, Murmur.  That album is celebrating its 42nd anniversary this month and April 19th marks the 45thanniversary of the band’s first show as R.E.M.

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), the American Public Works Association (APWA), and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) are collaborating to present the Engineering & Public Works Roadshow. Since its inception, the Roadshow has traveled across the country holding events at signature examples of successful infrastructure projects that have improved quality of life, enhanced economic opportunity, and improved resilience against extreme weather events.

The Athens stop will be the Roadshow’s 17th stop since it kicked off in 2022.
